Translated by Verse Made Simple Editorial
KJV ORIGINAL
Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.

✦ MADE SIMPLE

Go and ask the LORD what He wants me to do, and what He wants the remaining people in Israel and Judah to do, about the words in this book that was found. The LORD's anger is burning against us because our ancestors didn't obey the LORD's word or follow everything that's written in this book.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

King Josiah realizes his people are in serious trouble with God because previous generations ignored His commands, and he desperately wants to know what God expects them to do now.

📚 Historical Context

King Josiah had just discovered the Book of the Law (likely Deuteronomy) during temple repairs around 622 BC. This was after decades of idol worship under previous kings had led the people away from God's commands. Josiah was deeply troubled because he realized how far his nation had strayed from what God required.
